Rocky Mountain Talent Quest
Rocky Mountain Talent Quest Contest Rules & Scoring
THE TEN TALENT QUEST COMMANDMENTS
1. All contestants must be 21 years of age or older by the date of the regional contest.
2. Entertainers are allowed to compete as long as it is not their full time profession. Professional entertainers whose participation would cause RMTQ or any of it's representatives to pay such contestant a fee for performing are not allowed to participate.
3. Contests are divided into four categories: Male Country, Female Country, Male Pop/Rock & Female Pop/Rock . Contestants who choose to compete in both Pop/Rock and Country genres are able to do so without paying additional registration fees. If a contestant wins in both genres, they must choose only one to participate in at nationals (because the prize is the same). In this case, the second place winner in the genre not chosen, will advance to the nationals.
4. Contestants MAY NOT use “live” props. This will include back-up singers, dancers or animals. Musical instruments may be used as props, but are not allowed as an accompaniment to the contestants' performance. Any props or instruments must be hand carried. Any prop used by a contestant must be carried on stage by the contestant, and must be completed in one trip onto or into the stage area. In conjunction with the live-props rule, you may not touch judges or members of the audience, and may not leave the stage during your performance.
5. Although RMTQ officials will try to advise contestants in the event of someone else singing the same song and allow the contestant to alter their song choice, contestants MAY sing the same song as another contestant.
6. Songs selection is ultimately the choice of the contestant. RMTQ will not censor any artist's performance, but contestants should be advised that songs containing graphic or explicit language, will not be allowed at Talent Quest Nationals and contestants who, during their performance, use such lyrics, may be be disqualified from competition.
7. The order in which each contestant competes will be randomly selected and announced nightly, just previous to the beginning of the competition. Contestants who do not come to the stage when they are called may be disqualified from the competition.
8. Contestants and their family members should not have contact with a contest judge before or during any RMTQ competition event, other than a quick greeting or saying hello.
9. Judges decisions are final. No arguing with judges is allowed. Any contestant who argues with a judge may be disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct. Similarly, any contestant, or friend, or family member of a contestant who uses offensive behavior, disparaging remarks (including “booing”), or other examples of poor sportsmanship, may be disqualified from competition.
10. Song time limits: Quarter-final songs are not to exceed 4 minutes in length. Semi-final songs may be up to 4:30 in length, and finals will be allowed a 5:00 maximum song length. Keep in mind that judges can grow tired, and longer songs are not necessarily to your advantage. Points may be deducted if you continue to sing after a song has been faded out.
SCORING
Contestants will be scored using a 50 point system:
Vocal Ability (pitch, rhythm, mic control, phrasing) 1-30 points
Stage Presence (emotion, command of stage, confidence) 1-10 points
Appearance (costume, outfit, dressed for song, or genre) 1-10 points
ROCKY MOUNTAIN TALENT QUEST reserves the right to prevent participation by those whose conduct is such, that is unbecoming of a TALENT QUEST competitor. RMTQ will not tolerate abuse of any kind, physical or verbal. Discrimination or bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated and will result in immediate expulsion from any/all Talent Quest events.
